Gender bias is apparent in our attitude towards ‘beauty’, and the much more detailed expectations society has of what is appropriate for women to be like in order to classify as attractive. It is yet another way to put a whole gender down, by telling girls, from a young age, what they should or shouldn’t do to be ‘beautiful’ (and, by extension, loved and accepted). The associated pain and effort serve as great ways to detract from the actual important things of life, career development, etc.
